What wisdom would we impart to the world if we knew it was our last chance? For Carnegie Mellon professor Randy Pausch, the question isn’t rhetorical — he’s dying of liver cancer. This is the complete video of his lecture. It’s long but please take the time to watch this (the honors at the end are certainly worth watching as well). Just wonderful. He’s very, very funny and uplifting.   >More…

Rekindling Your Body and Spirit

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007
Here is an article by Rondi Lightmark featured in the Sept-Oct 2002 issue of Body & Soul Magazine

Nine years ago, I was a tireless and resourceful caregiver in the months leading up to my husband’s death from cancer. But the day after Jim’s funeral, I developed acute bursitis in both shoulders. Soon my feet began to cramp up. As the months went by, my left side developed a whole series of odd complaints-shoulder and toe aches, a benign cyst on my calf, eczema on the knee, lumps and pains in my breast. I also suffered from constriction in my chest, a clenching in my gut, an ache in my heart, a lump in my throat, an inability to focus, trembling hands and erratic sleep. I knew I wasn’t sick-but I also didn’t know how to help myself. >More…

An art major, Campbell devoted much of her time to drawing, printmaking and photography. Dawn Yankeelov, Campbell’s mother, said art was a constant presence in her daughter’s life. “When I was a reporter in Florida, I used to take her to meetings I would cover and she would take a box of crayons and color pictures for people at the meetings,” Yankeelov said. >More…

About our Brokeness

Sunday, October 28th, 2007
GrandFather, Look at our brokeness.

We know that in all creation

Only the human family

Has strayed from the sacred way.

We know that we are the ones

Who are divided

And we are the ones

Who must come back together

To walk in the sacred way.

GrandFather

Sacred One

Teach us love, compassion, honor

That we may heal the earth

And heal each other.

Five Poppy Seeds

Sunday, October 28th, 2007

poppyOnce there was a young woman, the wife of a wealthy man who became heart-sick because the death of her child. She took the dead child in her arms and went from house to house begging people to heal the child. They could do nothing for her, but finally the disciple of a Wise One advised her to see his Mater, who was staying nearby. So the woman carried the dead child to the Master.

The Wise One looked upon her with sympathy and said, “To heal the child I need some poppy seeds; go and beg five poppy seeds from some home where death has never entered.

So the grief-stricken woman went out and sought a home where death had never entered, but in vain. In home after home she heard story after story of loss and grief. At last she was obliged to return to the sage. In his quiet presence her mind cleared and she understood the meaning of his suggestion. She took the body away and buried it in the earth, then returned to become and ardent seeker of truth.
