Tampa, FL – (September 29, 2006) – On the morning of Sunday, September 24 a tragic accident occurred on the Blue Heron Bridge in Palm Beach County. A hit-and-run driver struck and killed Cynthia Andrews, 49 and Linda Taylor, 56. This is only one of the many reckless accidents that have occurred on the dangerous bridge. Anna Redgate, mother of Grace Redgate who was killed by a drunk driver on the same bridge in 2000, is organizing a memorial walk to honor the lives of the victims. The vigil will take place on Sunday, October 1 at 8:00 AM, while uniting community members, officials and spiritual leaders. Since her daughter’s death, Anna has been very active in the state of Florida, raising awareness to communities on the consequences of driving while impaired and other related issues. She formed the Foundation for Grace, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing a global resource center for victim’s families.
Activist, Anna Redgate, said, “There is no reason why we should not use this opportunity to reach out to victims everywhere, not only with our message, but as spokespersons for grassroots movements everywhere. We need to encourage others to take charge of their communities in order to grow them stronger, grow them safer and grow them with Grace.“
Both accidents had several similarities. They were both on the same side of the bridge only 25 yards apart, the vehicles involved were SUVs and both drivers had prior arrests. Coincidently, Anna Redgate had already planned to visit the Blue Heron Bridge this weekend. Several months ago she scheduled a taping for a film project at the location where Grace was killed. The documentary will include interviews with state attorneys and police officers who handled the detective work on the case.
